Privacy

We collect only what is needed to conduct this research, keep contact details separate from survey answers, and publish findings in aggregate.

Pre-launch completion required. The highlighted items below must be completed and legally reviewed before the public survey opens. They are deliberately visible in this draft so no required privacy detail is missed at launch.

What we collect

Research responses

We collect the answers submitted in the technology survey, including optional written comments and the calculated category and overall Technology Scores. These are used for research, analysis and the production of the Australian Migration Practice Technology Report 2026.

Contact details

At the end of the survey, we ask for your name, email address, optional practice name and consent. These details are collected separately from the survey-response record and are not included in the result shown to you.

Technical information

The services used to host and protect the survey may process limited technical information needed to operate securely, prevent abuse and maintain the service. The exact information and logging settings will be confirmed in the final privacy review.

How information is used

  • To administer the survey and generate your private Technology Score.
  • To analyse anonymised and aggregated patterns across participating migration practices.
  • To prepare and publish the Australian Migration Practice Technology Report 2026.
  • Where you have agreed, to contact you about the research, your result or the report.
  • To protect the survey and investigate misuse, fraud or security incidents.

We do not make individual survey responses or Technology Scores publicly available. Results are retrieved using an opaque, randomly generated link that does not expose a database identifier.

How information is stored and protected

Survey responses, contact details and private result records are stored in separate data collections. Public browsers cannot directly read the research database. Survey submission, scoring and result retrieval are handled through protected server-side services, and a result response contains no contact details, raw answers or database identifiers.

Access to identifiable research data will be restricted to authorised people who need it to operate the research or analyse the results. Reasonable technical and organisational safeguards will be used to protect the information; however, no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Service providers and locations

The planned production platform uses Google Firebase and Google Cloud services, with the primary research database and server functions configured for Sydney, Australia. Providers may process information in other locations where this is necessary to provide their services or meet legal obligations.

International handlingConfirm whether any personal information may be disclosed or processed overseas, and include the approved wording before launch.

Retention and deletion

Research information will be kept only for as long as required to conduct the research, analyse results, publish the report and meet applicable legal, financial and record-keeping obligations.

Before launch: insert the approved retention period for survey responses, contact details, backups and security logs, together with the deletion or de-identification process.

Your choices and requests

Subject to applicable law, you may ask about the personal information we hold about you, request that it is corrected, or withdraw from future research communications. If you request removal after submitting a survey, we will explain whether a response can be deleted or must first be de-identified to protect the integrity of aggregated research already produced.

To make a request or raise a privacy concern, use the privacy contact listed above. If a concern cannot be resolved, you may have rights to make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes to this information

We may update this privacy information if the research, technology or legal requirements change. The current version will be published on this page with its effective date.
